A woman aged older than 50 years presented with 20/150 Snellen visual acuity in the left eye a few months after attempted full-thickness macular hole repair with pars plana vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peel, and 14% octafluoropropane (C3F8) gas tamponade.
Ophthalmoscopic imaging (, A) and macular optical coherence tomography (, B) disclosed a small C3F8 gas bubble lodged within a persistent full-thickness macular hole. In a similar case report, the gas bubble occupied a small space within the hole, instead of the entire hole as demonstrated in this patient.
