Join Drs. Ethan Lazarus and Kenneth Schaecher for a discussion of evidence-based, individualized strategies for identifying and treating obesity in the primary care setting. Following the faculty presentations, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from their peers during an interactive group dialogue on addressing barriers to optimal patient care.
Agenda
1:00 – 1:30 PM Targeting the US Obesity Epidemic
Drs. Lazarus and Schaecher will discuss evidence-based strategies for diagnosing, staging, and treating obesity and weight-related health risks.
1:30 – 2:00 PM Learning Lab: Improving Obesity Management
This segment of the activity will feature a peer-led, interactive group discussion about how primary care clinicians can overcome challenges in translating the latest evidence on optimal obesity care in real-world care settings. Attendees will have the opportunity to share questions during this segment.
Intended Audience
Primary care physicians, NPs, and PAs, including community-based, those practicing in underserved/rural communities with a high prevalence of obesity; and those practicing as part of accountable care organizations (ACOs).

Learning Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, clinicians should become better able to:
Apply the most recent evidence-based guidelines and emerging data for the diagnosis and management of obesity as a chronic, treatable disease
Review recent efficacy and safety outcomes of clinical trials of available and emerging anti-obesity medications (AOMs) and the implications for real-world practice
Employ holistic care plans for patients with obesity that incorporate education and principles of shared decision-making (SDM) while avoiding the perception of stigma or bias
