Course: Addressing Irritable Bowel Syndrome With Constipation: Practical Strategies for Diagnosis and Management in Rural Primary Care Settings

Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) is a chronic disorder of gut-brain interaction characterized by recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, and altered bowel habits that can significantly impair quality of life. Although evidence-based diagnostic criteria and effective therapies are available, many patients remain undiagnosed or undertreated—particularly in rural and underserved communities, where access to specialists and gastroenterology support may be limited. In this on-demand CME/CE activity, expert faculty will review the clinical presentation and diagnosis of IBS-C, current guideline recommendations, and individualized treatment strategies, including available pharmacologic options. Practical approaches to improving patient communication, access to care, and collaborative management in rural primary care settings will also be discussed.
