Job Responsibilities
  • Review patient medical records to confirm and interpret sleep study orders, ensuring alignment with clinical indications and appropriate study protocols

  • Explain the sleep study process, including setup and monitoring procedures, to patients and caregivers; answer questions to promote comfort and cooperation

  • Prepare and apply electrodes, sensors, and other monitoring equipment following AASM guidelines and organizational protocols

  • Initiate and perform overnight polysomnographic recordings, including diagnostic, titration, and split‐night studies, in compliance with policy and AASM standards

  • Continuously observe and analyze sleep stages, breathing patterns, cardiac activity, limb movements, and other physiological data; intervene as needed

  • Administer CPAP, BiPAP, or other respiratory therapies during titration or split‐night studies according to physician orders and patient response

  • Document observations, interventions, and patient behaviors during the study in real time; ensure all data is recorded accurately

  • Wake the patient upon study completion, remove all sensors and electrodes, and assist with post‐study hygiene and comfort as needed

  • Score collected data using AASM scoring manual guidelines, prioritizing accuracy and timeliness

  • Participate in monthly inter‐scorer reliability activities to ensure consistency and accuracy in scoring

  • Notify the Medical Director, Clinical Manager, or Physician Assistant of any significant or adverse changes in the patient's condition during the study

  • Assist in the orientation and training of new technicians by demonstrating procedures and sharing knowledge

Position Qualifications

Minimum Required:

  • Associates Degree or Certification from an Accredited School in Polysomnography or Respiratory Therapy.

  • NY State License: Registered Polysomnographic Technician OR Respiratory Therapist

  • Receive CPR within one (1) week of start date.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in Sleep Medicine.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in an office environment that requires working in proximity to other employees and patients.
  • The office is air conditioned as well as heated.
  • Exposure to equipment cleaning solutions and disinfectants is possible.
  • Be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Work in a dark environment/low light.
  • Occasionally work alone.
