Research Article: Joint latent profiles of workplace violence and burnout among healthcare workers and their associated factors: a cross-sectional study

Date Published: 2026-09-21

Abstract:
To identify the joint latent profiles of workplace violence and burnout among healthcare workers using a person-centered approach, and to examine the psychosocial and demographic factors associated with profile membership. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 616 healthcare workers recruited from six hospitals in Sichuan Province, China, between April and May 2026. Workplace violence, burnout, work-family conflict, and emotional labor were assessed using validated self-report questionnaires. A two-class model provided the optimal solution. Class 1, the “relatively adaptive profile”, was characterized by low levels of workplace violence and burnout across all dimensions. Class 2, the “high-risk profile”, exhibited significantly elevated workplace violence and burnout, accompanied by a prominent level of work-family conflict; more than half of the participants belonged to this profile. In the multivariable model, work-family conflict was the strongest independent predictor of high-risk profile membership. Although gender, hospital role, educational level, and monthly income differed significantly between profiles in univariate analyses, none remained significant after adjustment. These findings suggest that occupational mental health interventions should prioritize workplace violence prevention, the promotion of work–family balance, and that such psychosocial intervention pathways may have applicability across demographic subgroups.
